Hi – thank you very much for creating and maintaining the Forminator plugin.
Up until about 3ish months ago, it has been working great for us. Since then, we have been getting absolutely railed by spam every single day. About 10 form submissions get through every day, and no matter what I do, I cannot stop it.
Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated!
I’ve had some long discussions with chatgpt and google and here is what I have tried so far:
- Enabling the Honeypot protection switch
- Paying for Akismet, setting up the API keys, and enabling that switch
- Adding a recaptcha v3 to the form
- Adding a recaptcha v2 checkbox to the form
- Turning off Ajax to Page Reload on the Method switch under Submission Behavior
- Turning off On Submit to Server Side on the Validation switch under Submission Behavior
- Turning off Load form using AJAX under Rendering
- Getting the Cloudflare Turnstile plugin and enabling it for all Forminator forms
For both recaptcha and cloudflare, I checked on their respective dashboards that submissions were indeed flowing through them.
The emails that get through the form are very generically written. Here are some examples below. I added the *’s to redact information because most of the time they are real emails and phone numbers, but the real people have never filled out our form. I guess their info was stolen?
Example 1:
- Name: Nameeta Kumar
- Request: 04/30/2025 at 12:00PM
- Event: 04/29/2025
- Budget: $11
- Email: nim****@comcast.net
- Phone: (*25) 858-****
- Details: *25858****
Example 2:
- Name: Melody Sills
- Request: 04/04/2025 at 12:00PM
- Event: 04/11/2025
- Budget: $0
- Email: sills****@gmail.com
- Phone: (*32) 651-****
- Details: Please send some information to my email
Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas I can try?
Also, would anyone know the motivation for someone doing spam like this with generic wording and a random person’s contact information? It seems like it is only a nuisance and does not bring any value to the spammers?
